Accompanied by Chinese officials including Chen Xunru, vice governor of Yunnan Province and Chen Hong, deputy director of the Public Health Department of Yunnan Province, the British Secretary of Foreign Affairs, British ambassador to China, and British general manager in the Sino-British cooperative project paid an instructive visit to the Yunnan Daytop Drug Dependency Treatment and Recovery Center on November 1, 2000.

The British Secretary of Foreign Affairs and his party inquired about the conditions of the center. They had a cordial talk with the community residents and took a group photo with them to mark the occasion.

Under the Sino-British cooperative project, the British party will provide a total of 70 million RMB in free economic aid to China for drug prevention, AIDS education and environmental protection projects in Yunnan Province.
